A new way to order groceries and stay healthy on the cheap.

I never went to Stop & Shop although I did see them the last time I was in Florida.  I drove past them on the way to shop at Whole Foods.  Now I feel like an ass, because I discovered they have this new division called www.peapod.com which I am super-excited to try.

I spend a lot of time shopping for cheap, quality groceries.  Since I live in Manhattan, everything is so damn expensive.   It isn’t like I live in the ghetto where I can find cheap quality groceries.  When I say ghetto I should have said “anywhere in Brooklyn” because there are tons of amazing places out there to shop for quality stuff on the cheap.

But it takes a lot of time to journey to Big Apple Meat Market or Trader Joe’s.  I looked into Fresh Direct, but they are so expensive and have zero selection.  Then today while searching for more information on the fact that the Manhattan Trader Joe’s delivers, I stumbled upon Peapod.  Not only do they have a fantastic selection, including organic and environmentally-friendly stuff, but their prices are low.  Now I can save time and have all my groceries delivered to me without spending a ton of cash!  In case you are wondering, they don’t carry prostate supplements like saw palmetto.

What a busy week!

I took off from the gym this week.  As some of you may know, I have been following a 5/3/1 workout program but modifying it slightly to suit my ultra-intense lifestyle.  One of the ways I modify it, is I take 1 week off as part of every 4-week cycle.  In the 5/3/1 program, they normally do the same workouts for the final week of a 4-week cycle – but with super-light weights.  I fail to see a point beyond the theoretical neurological benefit or practicing a movement with light weights and going for speed.  I prefer to take a week to rest, and boy do I need it every single month!

The Taoists are fond of saying in the Tao Te Ching: “High winds do not last all day.”  I apply that to exerting my body.  You need to give it a rest, or else you’ll find yourself buying bottles of saw palmetto or something to repair it.

But resting your mind is even more important.  If you run your mind to much you can fry your nerves.  Too much energy can get stuck in your head.  Not good.  So take time off to do something that doesn’t require thought.  I used to go work construction for free once in a while just to get out of my head. lol

Always new stuff to try…

So my father has been telling me that for the last few years he wakes up every morning and has incredible pain in his lower body.   The moment he gets up and moves around, his pain vanishes.  What’s weird is that as he wakes up and lays there in pain, despite the fact that getting up will make the pain go away, his impulse is just to lay there – because he feels as if he can barely get up.

It is very hard to find information about this on the internet, and every doctor is like: “For an 82 year old you are in better shape then any 40 year old we have ever seen – just enjoy your good health!”  But this mystery ailment stumps me.  Both him and I suspect it is stress-related due to the fact he is the primary caregiver for my mom who has Alzhemier’s.  He takes Prostate Magic every day instead of saw palmetto, along with over 600mg of magnesium chloride.  So I heard from a retired friend of mine who was suffering from arthritis so bad he was driving around on one of those motorized chairs.  He claims he bought this Amish product called “Green Supreme” or something that is made from barley grass I believe.  So I just bought two bottles and will give them to my father and see if it does anything for his condition.

Trouble swallowing tablets.

I got a call today from a customer who was not happy that my product was in tablet form as opposed to capsule form.  I used to make Prostate Magic in capsule form, but you can pack more punch into tablets.  The customer’s main issue was that he doesn’t like to swallow stuff and instead dumps the contents of capsules into his drinks.  I suggested throwing my tablets into a blender or placing them into your mouth so they become sublingual and go into your bloodstream directly, by-passing the digestive tract – much like a sublingual B12 supplement does.

I understand his situation because I also don’t like swallowing large tablets and prefer capsules and softgels.  Luckily, Prostate Magic tablets are not that large. ;)   I am always amazed at how some people can throw down several tablets at once.  It’s pretty incredible, actually.

Often I blog about male empowerment, the prostate, and saw palmetto.   Here is a great video about empowering yourself that is filled with fascinating observations:

I am a huge fan of alternative thinking, with my view being that even if I don’t agree with what the researcher says, at least he expanded my mind. The more viewpoints you have, the easier it is to triangulate in on the truth. It’s one of the ways the Buddha taught in the Diamond Sutra.

Structural distortions.

I was talking with someone today about Neuro-Cranial Restructuring.  It is often hard to explain to people that the problems they have with facial symmetry, spines that are out of alignment, etc., are most often a product of how they use their mind.  We have a left and a right side of our brains, and emotions and such are dominated by one side.  Since most of our darker emotions have no place in the modern world, we will use the other side as an instrument of repression.  One of the things the mind will do is enlist the body in its’ goals and tense the muscles on one side of the body, just like it tenses up the diaphragm to hold back rage, or tenses up the throat to hold back tears.  When you do this sort of thing your whole life,  eventually you will not only have problems with physical symmetry, but a CAT scan will even reveal different bone densities on one side of your face, and the bones will actually have modeled themselves differently in different areas.

So while you can do things in order to correct these issues, ultimately it is a long-term process that involves you looking at all the areas where you compromise yourself  and figuring out what to do about it while still being able to function in society.  A lot of things are deeper then just taking a saw palmetto supplement!
